Woohoo look at me reviewing something still in the theaters!
This was a new take on the old story, and included some of the music from the ballet.
Visually this movie was magnificent. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get a nomination for costuming. I love that Disney is continuing to have representation in their casting, as well as making Clara (Mackenzie Foy) a strong, brilliant young inventor. Jayden Fowora-Knight as her loyal nutcracker was enchanting. Not to mention you can’t go wrong with acting talents like Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman. I was also thrilled to see the brilliant Misty Copeland during the ballet sequence. Close up of her footwork? Gave me goosebumps.
Was it the most brilliantly acted piece? Probably not, but I found it quite enjoyable and entertaining. It was just spooky enough but not too spooky for the eight year old girls we brought (yes, it was for a child’s birthday). Nana also enjoyed it. Child and Nana approved. LOL
So if you’re looking for a fun movie that’s just the right mix of fantasy, action, and tradition, this could be the one for you.
