Phantom of the Opera

So I just finished reading Phantom. Yes, you read that right. I read it. I received a kindle for Christmas so I downloaded a bunch of the free classics. It seems in the last five years or so the classics are all I read for whatever reason.

It was interesting to see the changes made when making the book into movies (I’ve seen two, the one with Gerard Butler and the one with Juilan Sands). It seems they like to ignore that the author had Erik designed to look like a corpse, and just how much of a sociopath he was.

I’m happy to have read it, but I can’t say it’s my favorite book. In some parts it was a little draggy, and I never felt a real connection with the characters. Of course, I wasn’t reading it in the original French, so perhaps something was lost in translation.
