Rogue One

So I don’t normally write reviews. It’s just not my thing. but maybe I’ll do one now and again. We went to see Rogue One yesterday. It’s rare we get a date night (or in this case, a date matinee with a quick dash afterwards to pick up our daughter on time). I knew it was about stealing the plans for the Death Star, but other than that I didn’t know what to expect. Well, the movie has really stuck with me. I even dreamed about it last night.

Some great things about the movie: the cast is really diverse, which is nice to see. The characters won our hearts, the non-main characters especially. It very much felt to me like a war movie, not just in the space opera genre. There were exciting battles and triumphant moments and a dash of comic relief, but there was also the reality of war in there. Definitely something we can’t take our six year old to. No, there wasn’t gore or anything like that, but there was grey area and truths like people who are so extreme that no one wants to deal with them. I’m not trying to say this was the greatest movie ever acted, but it was highly entertaining and maybe even a little haunting. It doesn’t have the triumphant ending of the other movies. Yeah! We won this time! It was more of a, well, we did what we set out to do, but there were major consequences.
